Let's talk about something other than Problem Volunteers and other things that make me angry. Lets talk about movie squicks.
I don't know why, but it's the non-graphic things that get me. For example, one day I watched Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, while I did the ironing and mum did some work on her laptop in the same room. I had heard that it was a "so bad it's good" kind of film, and indeed it was, but I didn't check the rating before I started watching so I wasn't expecting it to be so visually gory, with all the dismemberment and blood all over the screen. And I wasn't really bothered by it, although mum was a little horrified.
Tonight mum was watching Tremors, and I came in just as the first victim got caught by the underground alien monster. Nothing particularly gory, just a guy disappearing screaming into a sink hole while his wife tried frantically to pull him out. And I pretty much had to turn around and walk right out again, because that was awful. I don't know if it was the fact that it was a pretty slow terrifying death for the guy, or if it was the wife who had to watch it all, but I couldn't handle it.
I don't have any deep thoughts on the subject, I just wanted to get it out of my head! We'll see if I have bad dreams tonight.
- and now for something completely different!
